Uganda | Mount Elgon
by kava.family
€11,00This coffee is produced by four farmers from two villages on the slopes of Mt. Elgon in Eastern Uganda. Michael Mafabi, Paul Odangwe, Steven Wolyambogo and Richard Wodulo have individual plantations between 2-8 acres on the steep volcanic slopes which provide shade and cool temperatures for the coffee tress. The altitude ranges between 1750-2100 meters, allowing for a slow ripening process of the coffee cherries. Traditionally, producer wash the coffee and keep store the parchment at home, in the absence of a bank account, for domestic expenses, in particular the school fees for the children. The importer Rehm and Bariguna have linked up with an NGO-managed project, the Mount Elgon Coffee Fund, which promotes environmental awareness and ecological technology for coffee farmers.
We gave this Ugandan coffee a bit more development in the roasting to make it particularly suitable for espresso beverages. You will find a well textured body with rich chocolatey and nutty notes and a hint of malic and citric acidity.
