Finca La Colombia is located between 1600 and 1900 masl, with 52 hectares of coffee trees and a natural reserve of more than 20 hectares. This farm has a special place in the portfolio of Cafelumbus and here they produce outstanding estate single variety Caturra as well as various microlots, including Caturra, Maragogipe and Geisha.

Gonzalo, the farm manager at La Colombia, has been part of the team for the past 8 years. During this time he showed commitment and an open attitude to learning about the importance of producing high-quality coffee. He is also responsible for successfully managing a team of 80+ pickers every season. All the coffee is 100% hand-picked! Here is what Gonzalo has to say:
 
 
“The mountains, the smell of coffee, the color of flowers, and our daily schedule of hiking our land between 1,600 and 2,050 masl has been my motivation. It is here, up in the mountains where we grow one of Colombia’s most renowned natural treasures, coffee. It represents us and identifies us anywhere as the best coffee producers in the world.
I have been growing coffee for over 70 years and it has become the legacy my grandchildren will carry on. We’re also sitting on more than 50 hectares of natural reserve for future generations which gives us the obligation to preserve the environment.
Growing and picking cherries from more than 280,000 trees and being a spectator of the whole process we carry out, fills me with pride. Proudly carrying the title of the main coffee picker for our Caturra and Maragogype microlots is the reason why I work hard to provide the best fruits for processing our specialty coffee.”

For this lot of Geisha the cherries have been selected manually after the picking to achieve 100% of ripe fruit. After an anaerobic fermentation of 24 hours the cherries have been pulped and underwent another anaerobic fermentation for 72 hours. Then the coffee was dried for 25 days on raised beds under a canopy.
